Ministry to the rescue...NOT!

From what I gathered, the Second Stimulus Package tabled recently was due partly to ease off some weight off of the people’s shoulder during the economic slump. Although many I came across were rather sceptical about getting some piece of the cake, I as usual, remained positive that some of the good shit would be heading my way.

That is of course, until I found this report while googling for some morphine-related materials.

RM200 Million Will Be Used To Upgrade JKM - Ng Yen Yen

By: Ramjit

KUALA LUMPUR, March 12 (Bernama) -- The RM200 million the Women, Family and Community Development Ministry will get from the Second Economic Stimulus Package will be used to upgrade the Welfare Department (JKM) and hire more staff, said its minister Datuk Seri Dr Ng Yen Yen.She said JKM offices nationwide would be upgraded to be more people and disabled-friendly, which would involve a cost of RM45 million.

"The ministry will also give more attention to old folks homes, especially in Sabah and Sarawak," she told a press conference at the pre-launch of the Purple Ribbon Movement, which will officially launched at the Sunway Resort in Petaling Jaya on March 21.

Ng said RM10 million would be set aside to purchase four-wheel-drive vehicles to facilitate JKM's services for old folks in rural areas while another RM10 million would be spent for hiring new staff to beef up JKM's work force.

At least a huge chunk of the 200million bucks allocated will be used to upgrade JKM offices across the country to make it more people and disabled friendly.

As always, real clever decision la coming from these people. Instead of channelling the money directly to those who are badly affected, they set their priority on matters that the community could do without particularly in these trying times. And the fact that this is the agency responsible minding the welfare of the disabled community amongst others, for decades they couldn’t even provide basic disabled-friendly facility at their premises. Malu la bro…

Whatever it is, the move by the ministry has certainly raised issues that demand quick clarifications.

Don’t get me wrong, I am all for better quality service especially when the cause benefits the less fortunate. But for now, pressing matters like imminent financial shortage hitting the community’s wallets should be on top of their list. Increments on existing allowances under their various schemes deserve utmost priority.

We are in financial crisis, any renovations can take the back seat.

Salam Kerp,
Saya tak tahu nak komen camana lah agaknya.
Apa keutamaan orang tua tu kalau dia buat begitu?

eh silap bace...45 million...still, that's a lot of waste lah...have they improved access/facilities for disabled in public areas tak?

I m with you Kerp. The person doing all the udgrading will probably be related to so and so who will mark-up margin by 500%! Who says the money doesn't reach the rakyat's pockets??? I just wonder how much of the RM60bil is actually used for its intended purpose?

Guess this happens everywhere. Look at the US. After getting USD130bil handout from the govt, AIG goes and pay USD165mil as contractual bonuses to staff claiming that they would be sued if payments are not made. What a load of bull!

tigress,

yes, 45mil bucks is still crazy money. ofcos some of the amount will be channelled to the rightful receiver but will the whole community- or ay least those registered with JKM- get any piece, especially after a large sum is pinched ofis renovation? itulah yang menjadi persoalannya.

p/s- lama tak nampak. kinda miss you sis..hehehe...

Gav,

forget about the 60bil bro. i dont think the 200mil will be spent on where it should, or at least large sum of it. contractors will definitely milk in.

Why bother upgrading the JKM offices when the JKM officeRs are the ones that need upgrading to be more people friendly?

Kerp (Ph.D) said...

aisehman, spot on la kak Pi. and another thing is, why waste public funds hiring new personnel when the existing ones should in the first place, buck up, right?

Achilles said...

Kerp: Pi Bani hit it spot on. Instead of hiring more lazy and unfriendly people, how about sacking all those current ones and replace then with people who are more willing to work.

No doubt, "some" rakyat will benefit greatly from this stimulus package but the rest (like all of us) will be left to rot in hell.

but like LLT said-lah...this is being misused by all people everywhere.

Same old shit . . .

Rajan,

another good suggestion would be to hire people from the disabled community themselves. i mean they are sincere in providing aid, nothing beats getting us employed. ad with such employment the present staffs will feel moved to buck up.

Balaji,

I know man...

What Zab said is worthy of pondering and anyway, how many 4XD do you think they would buy with 10mil. When you asked why so few they would say the rest is for maintenance.

Kerp (Ph.D) said...

spot on cikgu. and at the end of the day majority in the comunity will not get to taste fruit at all. its the same old shit, coming from THE GOVERNMENT!

i knew you'd come here and talk about Korn. tell me about it man, i missed it big time. a buddy was there and required a pinch to make sure it wasnt just another sweet dream. mark my words, if they're coming back for a bigger scale show, i'll be the first to camp outside the venue the night before the gig.
