A local council for all

Excerpts taken from Anthony Thanasayan’s Wheel Power today;

He was surprised that some able-bodied people had objected to the disabled-friendly project by MBPJ.”

“The blind were rather tickled by the objection of some sighted people who thought that the project should have been done at another place where a popular eye hospital is.

Check out the complete article Here. Mr Thanasayan was kind enough to even mention my name there.

So anyway, naturally after getting my parents to read the article, we discussed on the issue at length. And we came to conclusions that those who criticised the project are either downright selfish or that none of their family members are disabled, hence, their lack of sense of empathy.

As we have stressed on it for the zillionth times, this said project –a stretch of pavement- is universally designed, which means it can be used by EVERYONE.

Let me spell it out in case these people still didn’t get it. E-V-E-R-Y-O-N-E. And that includes you able-bodied morons who thinks the pavement reconstruction is a waste of money.

Or the taxpayer’s money to be more precise.

Well, fuck that. All of us pay our taxes too. Our dads, our brothers, sisters, wives, mistresses...they’re all taxpayers.

If this selfish-bunch thinks they have their say, then please keep in mind that WE too, in the disabled community have our rights to uphold.

And like it or not here’s something to add up to your misery; we are here to stay because the good people at MBPJ have a few more disabled-friendly projects on the pipeline!

So be afraid...wooooo...

Ok seriously, If it is too hard for you to be with us, than be prepared to come up with better reasons to back up your rationale behind such hostility.

But don’t be too naive to think the disabled will throw in our towels and wheel home crying to our moms (and mistresses).

We’ve waited for such goodies to come our way for ages that we must be out of our mind to back off now. I mean, finally at least one PBT is doing it right.

As Anthony aptly puts it, the disabled community is glad that MBPJ is going on a right direction with its forward-thinking plans for all its residents.

And when he said ALL, you better believe it because for one, a politician he is not.

Salam kerpie,

No lah, those who objected was not on selfish grounds lah! Seriously! I think, its more because they didn't get the project to do it, or wanted some outlandish project which even non-OKUs would not know how to utilise. For sure one, these people are the same breed as those Lilliputians lah.

wsalam shah,

you mean they barked because they cant cash in on such minor project? that is a possibility...hehehe...why didnt i think of that?

Agaknya depa dah terbiasa bangkang whatever MBPJ does, so this time nak bangkang jugalah. Macam zaman I kerja KL dolu-dolu, time tu gi kerja naik Bas Mini. Drebarnya dah terbiasa kat traffic light bila hijau je dia horn nak suruh kereta depan dia cepat jalan. So there was once, memang dia depan sekali, bila lampu hijau, dia tetap horn juga! Dah jadi habit.

So yang bangkang projek tu, dah habit membangkanglah agaknya...

M my man,

yes we do. in fact the bill was only past last year but knowing country, the problem has always been the enforcement, or the lack of it. with money you can practically sondol all the law under the constitution.

at least something is being done at your school, which is a big deal to the disabled community there. but i dont need to look far. the shit is happening in my own backyard!

yes bro, lets meet up soon. and thanks for the wish, but i only got engaged la bro, belum kawin lagi...hehehe...

Kak Pi,

i have the same feeling too. they protest for the sake of protest, without giving a hay what its all about. right up till now i still dont understand why the objection. real puzzling.

p/s- all the best on your writing quest!

Kerp: I think people sometimes object just to be heard or to make people think they are opinionated....But could be oso they object like what Cakapaje said.

Why near the eye hospital? Do they expect blind people to only be around there???

"wheel back to your mistress"... who this mistress of yours-lah bro? heheheheheheee.

Aiyo, mind-boggling why should these people object. Another sad indication of the fall in overall Malaysian standards.

ps: that Star article should have read, Ahmad Daniel, local porn baron . . .

Kerp (Ph.D) said...

Rajan,

exactly our point. the visually impaired are not sick, so why the hell should they stay near the hospital? i dont mean to sound harsh but these people are just plain stoooopid.

the mistress bit, randomly meant. siapa makan cili dia pedas...hehehe...

Bala ji,

i would like to believe only minority malaysians are dumb bitches.

re; if i may add, local porn baron WHO CARES...hehe...

Hey Kerp (Ph.D), Thanks for including my article in your fantastic blog.

You are an incredible advocate for people with disabilities in a wheelchair.

I am most inspired by your work. Keep it up!

Anthony,

dont mention it brother. its my little contribution for all of us in the community.

and that coming from you is real flattering. likewise, to me you're an inspiration to all of us.

fight on, chief!

I'm surprised the powers-that-be actually dare to object...But then again, I'm still marvelling at the super-civic-conscious society I'm living in at the moment.

Not only do people recycle and keep their washrooms dry and clean, but buildings have ramps and doors that can be opened with a button. Heck even schools have it, otherwise you can sue!

Let's not even talk about the lenghts they go to make education accessible...

Sure, sure there is still a lot to be improved (it's definitely not perfect), but still, building FM towers so ONE child in the school who has a hearing impairment can have amplified instruction? And giving the child an intepreter that signs the lesson while the teacher speaks in class?

Wow...

Kerp (Ph.D) said...

D,

that sounds like a perfect environment to live in. i'm amazed by their level of civic-conciousness. i think thats what equal rights is all about basically. thanks for sharing.
